FAQs

Below are answers to frequently asked questions. If there is something I’ve missed, please don’t hesitate to ask. For more information, get in touch. I look forward to meeting you soon.

What is your hygiene policy (COVID measures)?

I would like to assure all my clients that all reusable items such as towels and sheets are cleaned in accordance with government guidelines with all reusable items (towels and sheets) washed at 60 degrees Celsius. Surface wipes and cleaners are used frequently to ensure a constant level of cleanliness.

While the cleaning measures will always be observed, some of the government guidelines, such as social distancing and wearing masks, change frequently. Therefore, I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions about the current measures followed or for any other query. Thank you!

When are you available?

My normal office hours are:

Sundays from 12pm to 4pm for both Craniosacral Therapy and massages at 89 Giles Street, EH6 6BZ, Edinburgh.

What happens during our first meeting?

The first time we meet, we will have an initial consultation where we will decide which treatment is suitable for you.
During this consultation you will also have to sign a few forms if you have not already done so online.
We will also go over your medical history and establish whether it is safe for you to have treatments.

How do I make an appointment at the office?

Appointments can be made:

  • Online, by clinking the Book Online buttons anywhere on this website – please do not book online if you would like a home visit.

  • By email at qcmassageandcst@gmail.com

  • By phone at 07757927449 – if possible, please send a message via SMS or WhatsApp as I am often unable to answer the phone.

  • On Facebook – where you can leave me a message

How do I make an appointment for a home visit?

Please contact me directly for home visits either by phone, email or Facebook using the details above. Please note that for home visits I may be available at other times than if trying to book online.

How much does a treatment cost if the therapist comes to my home?

I can provide treatments at your home. There may be additional charges depending on the day and time requested.
For clients further than 10 miles from Edinburgh City Centre there will be an additional charge to cover fuel and journey time, the fee is negotiable depending on the distance and treatments requested.

When should I arrive for my appointment?

Please try to arrive as close as possible to your appointment time. Please do not arrive more than 5-10 minutes before your appointment time as I will be unable to open the door for you if I am with another client. If you are late this may lead to a shorter treatment time.

Are there any stairs to your office?

Yes. I am currently on the first floor and there is no other way to reach the office except for stairs.

What happens if I am late or I cannot make it? (cancellation policy)

Please contact your therapist as soon as you know that you will not be able to make it on time. Unfortunately it is not possible to extend a session if you are late. You are still welcome to attend your session even if you are late. In this case the full price will still have to be paid.

You may cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your scheduled treatment. For cancellations within 24 hours of the treatment a 50% charge will apply, based on the cost of the booked treatment.

How can I pay for my treatment?

I currently accept cash and card payments.

What should I wear?

If you are receiving an over the clothes treatment, please wear soft, comfortable clothing.
If you are receiving an on-the-skin treatment you may wear anything you would like as you will have to remove your clothes down to your pants or boxer shorts.
Ideally please do not wear any jewellery or makeup.
For treatments involving oil you may want to tie your hair. Also, please note there is a chance oil may get on your pants or boxer shorts.

Is there a treatment for which I do not have to undress?

Yes.

I offer CST (craniosacral therapy), a very gentle therapy and Tui Na massage, which is more vigorous. I recommend wearing comfortable, soft clothes for these treatments.

For facial lift treatments it is not necessary to remove any clothing however access to your shoulders and chest area above the bra will be required in order to enjoy the full experience.

All treatments require taking your shoes off and I can offer towels to cover you if you are feeling cold.

Will you leave the room when I need to get dressed or undressed?

Yes. You will have the room to yourself, and towels will be available for you to use.

Will the massage be painful?

Your treatment should not feel painful. Everyone is different when it comes to the experience of receiving a treatment. While some people prefer deep pressure, others may like a gentle massage. If you feel uncomfortable or in pain during your treatment, please let me know and I will adjust my techniques. Please note you may experience  discomfort for a few days after receiving a massage depending on intensity.

Will I be able to talk or move during my treatment?

Yes. It is important to feel comfortable and relaxed during treatment. Therefore, please feel free to adjust your position and to ask any questions or give any feedback you may have. If certain techniques require you to be in a certain position, I will communicate this to you.

Do I need to stay awake during treatment?

No. The more relaxed you are the better the treatment will work on you so feel free to fall asleep. I will gently wake you up at the end of the treatment.

Will I have to bring my own towels?

No. Towels and sheets will be provided.

Do you offer treatments to children?

Yes.
For anyone under the age of 18, a responsible adult will have to give written permission for the treatment.
For treatments on children under 16, a responsible adult must be present in the room at all times.
For younger children the treatment times and intensity will be reduced accordingly. Please inquire for further information.

Can I have a treatment if I am pregnant?

In case of pregnancy, I am regretfully unable to offer massages currently as I am not yet qualified to perform pregnancy massage, this being a qualification I intend to obtain.

Can I have a treatment if I have been suspected or diagnosed with cancer?

In the case of people who are either suspected of, are being treated for, or are recovering from cancer, I am regretfully unable to offer massages currently as I am not yet qualified to perform oncological massage, this being a qualification I intend to obtain. If you have had cancer in the past and are no longer receiving any cancer related treatment and you would like a massage you will need to obtain the written consent from your doctor. In this case, please let your doctor know that the treatment will not be carried out by a person qualified in oncological massage.

Are there any medical conditions that stop me from receiving treatments?

Yes. There are conditions which may stop you from receiving certain treatments. This will vary according to treatment type and intensity. For example, CST (craniosacral therapy) is generally well tolerated, and most people will be able to have at least a partial treatment. On the other hand, deep tissue may be quite intensive and more suitable for someone in good physical condition.

If you are already suffering from certain health conditions, which will be discussed during the initial consultation, you will have to either provide a letter from your GP or specialist doctor confirming their agreement for you to have complementary treatments or you will have to sign a letter of informed consent. Examples of such health conditions: heart conditions, diabetes, recent surgery, etc.

Please do NOT book a treatment if you are suffering from a contagious condition (particularly respiratory or skin conditions).

What is CST?

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle complementary therapy which aims to release tension stored in the tissues, improving general health and wellbeing. To find out more please click here.
Please note that I am in my forth year of training to become a fully qualified craniosacral therapist.

Should I book a treatment if I recently became ill?

No. If you have recently become ill, please contact your doctor or emergency services.

Alternative/complementary/holistic treatments are more suitable for long term (chronic) conditions. For sudden onset (acute) conditions please contact the NHS.

Also please note that none of the offered alternative/complementary/holistic treatments are meant to replace treatments offered by the regular medical system (NHS). If you have a medical problem, please speak to your GP or doctor before trying such treatments. Alternative/complementary/holistic treatments are designed to help the healing process, both mentally and physically, by working together with and alongside conventional, classic medicine.

Is it safe for me to have a treatment?

If you are suffering from a medical condition and you are unsure if you should undergo one of the treatments I offer, please speak to your GP or specialist doctor.

Even if you are not diagnosed with a medical condition, and you are just worried a treatment such as a massage may be unsuitable for you, please speak to your GP or specialist doctor.

Alternative/complementary/holistic treatments are designed to help the healing process, both mentally and physically, so it is important that when you come for a treatment you are not concerned and that you have a positive attitude towards receiving a treatment.

If you have already talked to your doctor and you still have doubts, I am more than happy to just have a chat during our first meeting. There is absolutely no obligation to have a treatment and I will not carry out a treatment on clients that are reluctant to receive treatment.

What can I expect after my treatment?

Occasionally, you may experience reactions as your body starts the healing process and toxins are eliminated from your body:

  • Frequent visits to the toilet

  • Runny nose or cough

  • Skin rash

  • Perspiration or headaches

  • Restless sleep or vivid dreams

  • Conditions which have been suppressed may flare up temporarily

  • The treated area may feel sensitive or slightly painful, particularly after deep tissue treatments

These reactions are temporary and should clear within 24 – 48 hours. They are positive signs your body has responded to the treatment and is balancing itself.

What should I do after my treatment?

To ensure maximum benefit from the treatment please take into account the following recommendations for 24 – 48 hours after your treatment:

  • Increase the amount of water you drink to aid the removal of toxins from your body

  • Reduce the amount of coffee and energy drinks you consume

  • Avoid alcohol (particularly on the day of your treatment) and avoid smoking

  • A light diet is recommended so the body does not have to concentrate on digestion

  • Wear loose clothing which does not limit blood or lymph flow

  • Avoid hot baths or saunas for a couple of hours following a treatment

  • Try to make some time to relax and let the treatment work for you
